THE BIRTH OF A TRUE PROPHET
We make grave errors in our understanding of the Bible when we interpret it literally (i.e. with human understanding) instead of symbolically (i.e. spiritually). Using human understanding framed with human words, we learn from man. But we learn from God when we hear God’s voice interpret the symbolic meaning of scripture for us in a lightning flash of understanding in which our eyes and ears are opened to truths that we never saw before.

STUDY TIP: See How to Hear God’s Voice

At that moment we hear God’s voice and interpret the Bible in spiritual words that are deep and very different from human teaching which is based on interpretations of the literal words of scripture. These are “aha” moments when mysteries of scriptures are opened to us in ways that could not be discerned by using our natural, intellectual abilities. This kind of understanding is only available to those in whom the spirit of a true prophet is present (i.e. New Covenant disciples who are conformed to the likeness of Christ). It is not available to false prophets who insist on interpreting scripture literally.

From that moment of revelation on, true prophets will not interpret that particular scripture the same way any more. Moreover, having been enlightened and excited by hearing the voice of God speak truth to their hearts, they will be increasingly open to receiving new spiritual revelations of truth from the mouth of God in future Bible study adventures. And they will be eager to share the good news of what they hear with others whom they will encourage to also listen to God’s voice. When this happens, they will begin to function in the role of a true prophet.
