OVERVIEW
According to some people who monitor religious growth around the world, Pentecostalism is the fastest growing religion in the world. That may or may not be true, but it has surely become a major player in the religious landscape since it emerged on the religion scene in the early 1900’s.
It is arguable that evidence of Baptism In the Holy Spirit through speaking in tongues is the primary distinctive by which Charismatic/Pentecostal denominations are known. While this phenomenon, also known as Glossolalia, does appear in several New Testament epistles, there is disagreement within the broad Christian community about its relevance to all believers. Thus it is a divisive issue within Christianity that spoils God’s desire for unity.
Therefore, in this series of pages we will demonstrate how scriptures regarding Baptism of the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, praying in the spirit and praying in tongues have been misinterpreted and misapplied in the formation of doctrines by both Christians and Jews. And we will show that the issue is much bigger than the divide between those who talk/pray in tongues and those who don’t.
It all stems from failure of both Jews and Christians of all denominations to investigate and understand the spiritual intent behind the literal interpretation of all scripture.
