BAD NEWS AND GOOD NEWS
Associating Judaism and Christianity with a covenant of death makes sense when we recognize that both religions are based on literal interpretations of the Bible. These interpretations do not reflect spiritual understandings hidden in parables and mysterious language that can teach, correct, and train us in righteousness — if we know how to interpret them. This is bad news for Jews and Christians who pridefully think they are righteous because they understand and faithfully apply — best they can — the literal words of the Bible.
The good news is that even though these legalistic, Old/First Covenant religions are deficient, obsolete, disappearing and unable to impart life, individual members of these religions always have the option to upgrade to a new and better covenant that gives life (i.e. the New Covenant.) This is the only way that they can be set free from the sin of religion.
This upgrade is the option that many people appear to be taking when they terminate their religious affiliations with Judaism and Christianity. That means they choose to quit listening to the false prophets of their religions. If they don’t stop listening to false prophets, they will not be able to learn about God from God directly by listening to his spoken voice.
