ORIGINS OF THE MOVEMENT
It is accurate to say that the grand plan of Christian Nationalism to dominate seven mountains of American culture emerged from the thinking of David Barton. See this link, this link and this link to learn more about David Barton. See books identified with *** in Books About Christian Nationalism for more reading about the origins of the movement.

Beyond the ideology of Christian Nationalism and Dominionism, there are three important facts we learn from this background:

      • David Barton and those who follow his teachings find justification for Christian Nationalism and Dominionism in literal interpretations of select scriptures of the bible.
      • The roots of Christian Nationalism and Dominionism were established in the Catholic Church.
      • David Barton’s teachings are based on faulty distortions of American history.
      • Barton collaborated with many religious and political leaders to design and implement the movement.

The implications of these facts for American democracy are discussed in detail in these links:

Although David Barton and others are the visible originators of the Christian Nationalism movement, it must be said that the real antecedents are found in the earliest writings of Judaism and Christianity. Just as the literal words of the bible are the sources of justification for Judaism and Christianity, those same words are the sources of justification for Christian Nationalism beliefs.

This point can be rightly summarized like this:

      • Interpretations of the literal words of the bible have been continuously refined and expanded throughout history.
      • These interpretations are the sources of modern day Judaism and Christianity that gave birth to the Christian Nationalism movement.

The significance of these points is that the potential for extremist religious movements like Christian Nationalism has always been present in Christianity and will continue to be present whenever and wherever the bible is interpreted literally.
