In the Bible, false prophets are identified with a variety of names:  

Since all scripture is useful for training in righteousness, we should assume that false prophets are a present reality and not a phenomenon that only existed in the past or will appear sometime in the unknown future. It is critical, therefore, to know how to identify them and how to regard them.

But knowing how to identify false prophets is not the only challenge. We also need to know how to identify true prophets. Then we are equipped to evaluate if we are receiving instruction about God from trees of life or trees of knowledge of good and evil.
