Journalists have unique responsibilities in confronting Christian Nationalism. Therefore, they should be very aware of Strategies for Everyone and Strategies for Politicians and hold everyone, especially politicians and all types of media, including themselves, accountable for doing, or not doing, things that will effectively confront Christian Nationalists.
They have a unique mandate to use their skills and training to do the following — at a minimum:
-
- Promote unity
- Expose beliefs, behaviors and policies that destroy unity
- Educate the public about the Constitution
- Defend the Constitution
- Militate against those who would erode the Constitution and promote disunity
- Educate the public about America’s Religious History
- Educate the public about qualities of exemplary leaders
- Expose lies and educate the public about truth

These are not new ideas in the worlds of journalism and academia. They have always been critical to the advancement of progressive societies. But, in this season of advancing Christian Nationalism and tangible threats to democracy, they have never been more important.
